Sandy Gun Works is a growing operation nestled in the foot hills of Mt. Hood in Oregon. Though a small shop that concentrates on pistols, (especially weird and obsolete pistols) it offers a wide range of services. Pistol work is the primary focus, but rifles and shotguns are also serviced. I have had an appreciation of firearms since the age of six, which is when my father taught me to shoot a 1911-A1 that he brought home from the Army Air Force after WW II. The 1911 series pistols has been in my life pretty much constantly since that time. I performed four years service in the US Army during the Vietnam War, but did not have the opportunity to serve overseas. I am currently a member of the Oregon National Guard, with a only a few short years until retirement. Formerly I worked as a professional precision machinist with twenty two years experience. I have also worked as a Federal Technician in Depot level weapons repair and take a great deal of pride in my work on firearms. I learned my trade by doing, and have been repairing firearms for over twenty-five years. I have repaired over 100 different types of firearm, from a match lock rifle, up to select fire and full auto belt-fed firearms. While in the service, both active duty and in the Guard, I have been primary weapons instructor for the 1911-A1, M-9 Beretta, all M-16 series rifles, all 40 mm grenade launchers from the M-79 to the MK-19 machine gun as well as the M-60, M-240B, and M-249 machine guns. I have also taught shoulder fired rockets, ground and vehicle mounted missile systems. As you can see, I have a great deal of experience in firearms and weapons, in their application, maintenance, and repair. The 1911-A1 is well thought of here and is considered the finest pistol available, bar none. While others may have newer features and are made of newer and lighter materials, the 1911 series pistols has proved itself in countless battles since it first appeared on the scene. By no means is it every ones pistol, to use it well takes dedication, and practice, practice, and more practice. In my opinion, it is a pistol for professionals or owners of the same level of expertise. Foreign pistols of any time or nation are serviced, however some pistols will not be worked on. This is either because the pistol itself is not of sufficient value to warrant the work, or that the design is inherently unsafe. Yes, there are some pistols in this world that are now considered unsafe and will not be repaired. If a customer really wants work performed on a pistol regardless of value, it will be treated with the same respect and exceptional service as any other firearm, with the exception of unsafe designs. No compromise there as I will not be responsible for someone losing any body parts. No barrel work for rifles is performed at this time except for re-crowning or the shortening and re-crowning of barrels. Stock work is kept to a minimum with the exception of glass bedding and refinishing of either wood or synthetic stocks. Finishes for firearms are farmed out as the shop has not the space or business to justify adding that service as of yet. Glass beading is available for stainless steel firearms. Restoration work for surplus rifles is available. Please have a look at the articles section for an example. Stocks can be repaired and oil finished, metal refinished, and missing or broken parts replaced. If a part is unavailable, it can in most cases be fabricated and duplicated by Sandy Gun Works. Being a collector of military semi-auto rifles and pistols, as well as 22 years military service, I have experience with a variety of military firearms. I care a great deal about my work on firearms and their place in our history and society. I believe my quality and attention to detail are first rate and I stand behind my work 100%. If you have a request, please do not hesitate to E-Mail Sandy Gun Works. |
